"Nothing will grow there!"

- Chemical Trooper

Tactical Analysis[]

  • Bio-Hazard: Chemical Troopers spray toxic chemicals that corrode armour and make quick work of infantry, while also poisoning the very ground. Though they are nowhere nearly as effective against heavier targets, their weapons also corrode the armour of their targets, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
  • Chemical Volatiles: Chemical Troopers also carry several toxic mines with them, which they can plant on pretty much any even surface. Those mines will explode when enemies come near and release lethal chemicals.
  • It will be a "LOUD" spring: Critically hit Chemical Troopers can prove fatal to their fellow comrades, because the toxin tanks on their backs tend to explode violently, taking unsuspecting infantry with them and contaminating the surrounding area.
  • Splattershot: While the DTI was rejected, someone noted that the splattershot cannon would be useful, and proposed that Chemical Troopers be given them. Modified to fire capsules filled with Desolator defoliant, the cannons would give Troopers a longer range than normal, and would also deal splash damage. However, it is extremely dangerous for all but the most experienced troopers to handle these cannons.

Background[]

When Soviet Conscripts fail to accomplish their assigned duties, they are usually transferred to the Soviet Union’s Chemical Trooper Divisions. Chemical Troopers are Red Army soldiers who are outfitted with specialized biohazard gear that allows them to walk through toxins unharmed (although it was very delicate and offered little protection against weapons fire).

Chemical Troopers were deployed by the Soviet Union to clean up the battlefields of Eastern Europe, where the remains of the deceased were often contaminated with residue from Desolator Strikes and destroyed Super Reactors. More often than not, they ended up using variants of the Desolator compound to dissolve any remains, as the Soviets couldn't find anything more effective when it came to wiping out any trace of life from the land.

These weapons were similar in operation to a flamethrower, with the exception that instead of flamethrower fuel in the tanks, it contained special chemicals under extremely high pressure. Soviet Chemical Troopers needed to be split up, because if the unit was killed, there was a high probability that the tank full of flammable chemicals would be set on fire, damaging nearby infantry. Thus, Soviet commanders often placed them behind front-line infantry, but also spread apart, which was at times difficult because of the weapon's short, but non-zero range.

Recently Soviet scientist found a way to hold the desolator defoliant in sturdy, but impact sensitive, capsules, allowing a vehicle to launch the defoliant with a range closer to a cannon. However due to the defoliant caustic nature these capsules must be carefully made, since a single mistake could cause it to leak, and found that, despite their initial thoughts, the capsule would break when launched with the same velocity of most cannon round, inside the barrel, and there wasn't a material tough enough to launch out of cannon yet reliable hold the defoliant.

Despite this the scientist did find a use for it, and avoided going to the gulag, by giving these to Chemical Troopers, since with some modifications the mothballed splattershot cannons from the rejected DTI can launch these capsules at a long distance without threating the capsule integrity. But fearing a normal soldier might break these volatile capsule, and melt themselves, only veterans are granted the privilege to fire these capsules.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The Chemical Trooper is based on the Flame Trooper from Red Alert 1, and Chemical Warriors from Tiberium Dawn: Covert Operations.
