Tactical Analysis Edit

  • Big Bird: Condors are basically bigger brothers to the Cardinal. Like the Cardinal, they can transport Allied forces, although, being bigger, obviously have a larger carrying capacity.
  • Recon team moving out: As part of the Peacekeeper Recon reinforcements, the Condor is dedicated to providing airlift duties for the Recon fleets, and are known to swoop into the battlezone, loaded with Recon Leopards.
  • Target locked on: The Condor also mounts a spectrum target designator, identical to the one used on the Cardinal. The designator can be used to support Allied forces, although the Condor is not equipped with any other weapons to maximize carrying capacity.
  • Specialised: As a result of their lack of armament, Condors are vulnerable to just about any unit that can hit flying targets. Despite their durability, it would be foolish to fly one of these transports straight into unfriendly fire, especially if they happen to be carrying expensive cargo.

Operational HistoryEdit

One of the main goals of the Recon Peacekeeper Divisions is to be able to operate anywhere and anytime while being able to project force when they are needed. For obvious reasons, they therefore needed an airborne vehicle to insert forces where land and sea transports wouldn't be able to reach. The Cardinal, the main Allied alternative, was simply not able to carry the amount of forces sometimes needed on these missions, and it was prone to being shot down over enemy territory. The responsible officers therefore requested two attributes of the air transport; it was to be able to carry several men, and it was to be sturdy enough to survive a fair amount of anti-aircraft fire.

When the Peacekeepers were choosing their new MEDEVAC design, the Cardinal was chosen over a heavier design, the French Condor Heavy Lift Transport. The latter was deemed too heavy and costly to maintain, but was indeed bigger and more armoured - just what the Recon Peacekeepers desired. The blueprints were brought back to the Allied Quartermasters, and after a short time the decision was made and the French company Aviation et Aérospatial received a surprising call and a multi-million dollar contract. Manufacturing plants were soon mass-producing these transport beasts, which soon became a common sight around Allied bases.

As recon missions are few and far between, most Condor pilots never see more action than transporting troops from one base to another, but when they finally come the pilots are usually excited to contribute. While the helicopters don't carry any weapons due to weight reasons, just like the Cardinal (some say suspiciously like the Cardinal, although not in hearing distance of any AeA worker) they are equipped with spectrum target designators, used to the same effect as by their Cardinal colleagues. Statistics show that the casualties due to shot-down helicopters in recon missions have decreased by 50%, a number that the Allies are more than happy with. As a result, more Condors have been ordered.
