"Big Sister is watching you."

- Propaganda commonly displayed on Telescreen Towers

Background

With the war going into its later years, the battles began to take their strain on the morale of the Soviet Army. The great stalemate that occurred after the primary conflicts of the 3rd World War further dampened Soviet morale. But during the conflict with the Empire of the Rising Sun, several commanders noted the effectiveness of the emblems that adorned much of the opposing army. The Soviets believed that the easiest way to inspire their troops in a similar way was through propaganda, a tactic that they had used to recruit much of their army. If it was so effective on the home front, then surely it would be effective on the front lines.

With that, the Soviets commissioned the construction of a tower that was to be covered in whatever telecommunications equipment could be found. They did little to hide the thrown together nature of the tower, though no one really cared. To monitor its effectiveness, several cameras were placed on it so that they might be viewed by a member of Soviet high command. During one live viewing of the tower’s performance, an allied spy was caught on tape. The commissioner immediately contacted the Soviet base in question and the spy was killed. In the same field test the tower proved itself capable of motivating Soviet forces and indeed, several conscripts felt their strength return to them as they listened to the tower's many broadcasts.

Another important role of the Telescreen Tower is to unlock higher technology tiers. The Telescreen Tower allows a direct link between a field base and the higher ups in the Soviet military, allowing the base to request access to higher levels of technology while allowing the Soviet KGB to keep an eye out for potential defectors trying to abscond with advanced military technology.

Behind the Scenes

Obviously inspired by George Orwell's 1984, this device tries to reflect some aspects of Marxism–Leninism.
